The Royal Netherlands Air Force’s (RNLAF) Apache attack helicopters are to get new ammunition, which will increase their accuracy and help the air force to avoid civilian causalities during operations.
The Dutch Government will replace the Hellfire anti-tank missiles and unguided 70mm rockets, fitted in the Apache attack helicopters, by laser-guided 70mm rockets, at a cost of €25m ($36m) and €50m ($72m).
In service with the RNLAF since 1990, the multimission AH-64D Apache is a four-blade, twin-engine attack helicopter with reverse-tricycle landing gear, and a tandem cockpit for a crew of two.
Powered by two high-performance turboshaft engines, the AH-64D Apache has a maximum cruise speed of 284km/h, and is equipped with laser and infrared sensors to locate, track and attack targets.
