GKN Aerospace has received a contract from Cobham Mission Equipment to develop and deliver an air refuelling pylon to Airbus Military 400M aircraft.

Under the £6m contract, the company will deliver a lightweight air-to-air refuelling pylon for the wing dispense equipment (WDE) on the aircraft.

The company will also supply a wing spar for the A400M turboprop military transport aircraft.

The pylon will be manufactured using a combination of composite and metallic components to achieve the specific weight required for safe and efficient air-to-air refuelling.

Delivery of the development units for vibration testing will occur early next year, while production deliveries will begin in 2013 and run through until 2020.
