Indonesia has taken delivery of the third air defence radar station from ThalesRaytheonSystems (TRS), which will be deployed in remote regions of the Eastern Indonesian archipelago to strengthen the nation’s air defence system.
The delivery marks the completion of the previously awarded contract to TRS in 2008 for the supply of three air defence radar stations to the Indonesian Ministry of Defence and Indonesian Air Force.
ThalesRaytheonSystems, French Operations CEO Philippe Duhamel said: "The Indonesian air defense radar program was challenging both from a technical and logistical perspective, with the installation of radar systems on islands in some of the most remote parts of Indonesia."
"Given the ambitious nature of the program, it is the long history of collaboration between TRS, TNI-AU, Indonesian MoD, the National Air Defense Command, and local industry, and a remarkable effort by all that has ensured the radars were operational on schedule," Duhamel added.
The new radar, which recently completed a site acceptance test (SAT), will be used to feed air surveillance data to Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Udara’s (TNI-AU) command and control centre in Jakarta as well as Sector Operation Center in Biak, Indonesia.
The radars will also provide an aerial view and situational awareness to the operators in the operation centres.
