US Air Force personnel from the Global Strike Command (GSC) have completed the first command-wide nuclear operational readiness exercise, Constant Vigilance.
The ten-day exercise scenarios included simulating an active-shooter threat to a hazardous material spill on base.
The Air Force Exercise Operations branch at the GSC headquarters deputy chief Major Scott Ryan said the exercise allowed USAF units to train like they fight.
GSC headquarters chief of the exercises division Robert Thomson said nuclear operational readiness exercises provided unit commanders with the opportunity to assess their nuclear combat capability.
In addition to practicing nuclear operations, the GSC intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance directorate also developed force protection scenarios to challenge wing response levels and actions, Thomson added.
