The US Air Force will receive NewGen tanker aircraft from Boeing as part of the air force’s multimission aerial refuelling competition.
Boeing developed the new widebody, multimission tanker aircraft from the proven Boeing 767 commercial aircraft platform.
Modified with the latest and most advanced technology, the NewGen tanker will fulfil the air force’s requirement for transport of fuel, cargo, passengers and patients according to the company.
Boeing Defense, Space and Security president and CEO Dennis Muilenburg said the Boeing NewGen tanker would satisfy all mandatory air force requirements and offer an American-made tanker that would be capable, survivable and combat-ready at the lowest cost to the taxpayer.
The NewGen tanker will include a digital flight deck featuring electronic displays showing flight attitude, navigation, engine indication and crew-alerting information on screens 75% larger than those on a commercial Airbus A330.
The tanker will include a new-generation fly-by-wire boom with an expanded refuelling envelope and increased fuel offload rate to simplify refuelling operations, reduce aircrew workload, and improve safety and reliability.
