Poland is to receive eight medium-range unmanned aerial drones from Israel’s Aeronautics Defense Systems for use in Afghanistan.
Under the 89m-zloty ($33m) contract, signed on 1 February 2010, Aeronautics will deliver eight Aerostar drones to Poland.
The air force will use four of the UAVs in the province of Ghazni, Afghanistan, while the remaining four will be used for training purposes in Poland.
Polish Defence Minister Bogdan Klich said the acquisition was regarded as strengthening of the surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities of Poland.
Aerostar can perform target acquisition, artillery fire adjustment, targets designation as well as battlefield and borders control.
The Aerostar UAV will provide reliable, high-quality real-time intelligence-gathering capability to the air force.
