The Lithuanian Air Force will unveil the last of three C-27J Spartan aircraft at the LAF Siauliai Aviation Base.
The air force will use the Spartan aircraft to airlift and airdrop soldiers, VIP, and cargo and to conduct medical evacuation.
The aircraft, which is developed by Italian company Alenia Aeronautika SpA, can take off from a surface shorter than 500m.
The C-27J needs refuel only once in a transitional airport for a flight to Afghanistan, where Lithuania is supporting the provincial reconstruction team.
Under a €75m contract signed in June 2006, Alenia has developed the three C-27J aircraft. The contract also includes spare parts, logistic equipment, installations for the VIP cabin, and training for pilots and maintenance staff.
The first aircraft was delivered at the end of 2006, the second at the end of 2008, and the last was delivered to Siauliai Military Airfield in October 2009.
