ViaSat has achieved a delivery milestone with the shipment of its 1,000th AN/PRC-161 Battlefield Awareness Targeting System-Dismounted (BATS-D) handheld Link 16 radio.
The Viasat BATS-D handheld Link 16 radio is designed to provide secure, reliable access to integrated air and ground information for troops, offering improved situational awareness and enhanced close air support communications.
According to the company, access to information using the radios will bridge the gap between air and ground forces.
Viasat has ramped up production of the BATS-D handheld radios in view of the growing demand for the technology.
The BATS-D handheld Link 16 radio is part of the communications specialist’s portfolio of non-developmental item solutions, which offer improved communications to engage enemy targets and enhance protection for troops.

The company has upgraded its portfolio of next-generation tactical datalink systems to support the operational environment and evolving mission needs of the customers.
In September, the firm secured a contract to deliver in-flight connectivity and broadband services for the US Air Force One aircraft.
