The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has submitted its final proposal to Belgium for the delivery of 34 units of the Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role aircraft to replace the country’s existing F-16 fleet.
The offer is completely supported by the governments of the four Eurofighter nations, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.
The UK MoD is leading the proposal on behalf of the partner nations and companies participating in the Eurofighter Typhoon programme.
The country has also offered to increase co-operation between the airforces of both the nations by providing the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) more than ten years of experience in operating the fighter jet.
UK Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “These proven jets offer Belgium a formidable capability, which forms the backbone of European air power, as well as a comprehensive long-term defence and industrial partnership with the UK.
“A unique partnership with the RAF and integration with our world-leading support service mean Belgium’s selection of the Typhoon would be a powerful demonstration of us working together to support security across the continent in the face of intensifying threats.”

The aircraft has supported the RAF operations both in the UK and worldwide, and has to date been purchased by nine countries from across the globe.
Last year, Qatar agreed to acquire 24 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft that would help sustain thousands of job opportunities in the UK and across Europe.
In October last year, Eurofighter partner companies, BAE Systems, Airbus Defence and Space, Leonardo, and MBDA’s missile systems business, committed to supporting the development of Belgium’s National Innovation Centres if the Typhoon aircraft is selected by the country.
