Lockheed Martin has won a firm-fixed-price contract for the production of 137 Lots 4 and 5 long-range anti-ship missiles (LRASM).

The contract has been awarded by the US Navy and US Air Force (USAF). It is valued at $414m and will keep the production of the ‘air-launched variant’ of LRASM going on.

Currently, this variant is deployed on the US Navy’s F/A-18E/F and USAF’s B-1B.

The company noted that the latest contract is the ‘largest LRASM production contract’ in the programme’s history.

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control LRASM director David Helsel said: “This contract reflects LRASM’s increasing significance to our customers’ missions. Focused teamwork around a shared vision with our customers and our dedicated supply partners remains key to this programme’s success.”

LRASM is designed based on the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range (JASSM-ER). It fills the troop’s anti-surface warfare capability gap in contested environments.

The precision-guided, anti-ship standoff missile features improved ability to differentiate and engage in tactical missions from extended ranges. This will enable the military to operate in ‘open ocean’ environments.

Lockheed is expected to complete the additional LRASMs on 21 March 2025. Work will be carried out in the US in Orlando, Florida, and Troy, Alabama.

In a separate development, the US Department of Defense announced the award of a $428.41m firm-fixed-price contract to the company.

Under this contract, the company will manufacture 400 Lot 19 JASSM-ER missiles.

The missiles will be delivered along with containers, hardware spares, test and tooling equipment and training and production preparation.

In December 2018, the USAF operational units took delivery of the first tactical production LRASM.
