India has officially unveiled the new indigenously developed HTT-40 Turbo Trainer-40 aircraft to be delivered to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The aircraft was revealed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19 October, during an ongoing biennial exhibition, Def Expo 2022, at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
Designed and developed by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the new trainer aircraft features an air-conditioned cabin, the latest avionics and ejection seats.
According to the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD), the aircraft has already completed a series of systems and performance trials.
It includes systems trials, all preliminary staff qualitative requirements (PSQR) performances, user-assisted technical assessment, rainwater resistance demonstration, as well as hot weather, crosswind and sea level trials.
The trainer jet has also received provisional clearance for airworthiness from the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification.

By GlobalDataIn 2018, the aircraft commenced its maiden spin testing phase, which was completed in August last year.
All the necessary tests for obtaining certifications have been completed following the aircraft’s first flight in 2016.
Equipped with a turboprop engine, the HTT-40 trainer aircraft has been designed to meet the training needs of the Indian defence services.
It has several pilot-friendly features and supports running change-over of pilots, hot-refuelling and takes less turnaround time.
Once inducted, the aircraft will primarily be used by the IAF to carry out basic flight training operations, aerobatics, instrument flying and close formation flights.
The aircraft will also be deployed for conducting navigation and night-flying missions.
With more than 60% indigenous content, the new aircraft supports the Government of India’s ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives.
