Notably, Computer and Mathematical Occupations jobs accounted for a 24% share of the global aerospace, defence and security industry’s missile defense-related total new job postings in Q2 2024, up 16% over the prior quarter.
Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive missile defense-related hiring activity
Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 24%, emerged as the top missile defense-related job roles within the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings rising by 16% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 18% in Q2 2024, with new job postings dropping by 9% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent missile defense roles include Management Occupations with an 11% share in Q2 2024, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in aerospace, defence and security industry accounted for 69% of hiring activity
The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, RTX, BlueHalo, and AEgis Technologies Group. Together they accounted for a combined share of 69% of all missile defense-related new jobs in the aerospace, defence and security industry.
Lockheed Martin posted 318 missile defense-related new jobs in Q2 2024, Northrop Grumman 207 jobs, RTX 102 jobs, BlueHalo 96 jobs, and AEgis Technologies Group 90 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with an 85.39% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024
The largest share of missile defense-related new job postings in the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 85.39% followed by Switzerland (5.61%) and Saudi Arabia (2.12%). The share represented by the US was five percentage points lower than the 89.94% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
