The top five companies accounted for 57% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that RTX filed the most 3D printing patents within the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 50 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 59 in the previous quarter. It was followed by CEA with 26 3D printing patent filings, Safran (18 filings), and Boeing (15 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 39% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 39%, followed by France (11%) and Japan (7%). The share represented by the US was 3% lower than the 42% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
