The top five companies accounted for 22% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Boeing filed the most artificial intelligence patents within the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 30 artificial intelligence-related patents in the quarter, compared with 13 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Thales with 24 artificial intelligence patent filings, CEA (17 filings), and Airbus (13 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 36% share of total patent filings
The largest share of artificial intelligence related patent filings in the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 36%, followed by China (16%) and France (6%). The share represented by the US was 0.96% higher than the 35% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
