The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has responded to the Belgian F-16 replacement Request for Government Proposal (RfGP) with a comprehensive Eurofighter Typhoon proposal.
Submitted on behalf of the four Typhoon partner nations, the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany, the proposal seeks to reinforce a long-term defence and security partnership between the UK and Belgium.
The proposal is also expected to support Belgium’s aspirations for a European defence and technology industrial base.
The aircraft will be offered in full partnership with the British Royal Air Force (RAF), including integration with the UK’s proven support service.
UK Defence Procurement Minister Harriet Baldwin said: "I commend Belgium for what is a comprehensive and well-executed competitive process.
“The UK, supported by Spain, Italy and Germany, has offered Belgium a government-to-government strategic partnership, including a long-term relationship with the Royal Air Force.

On 22 December 2015, the Belgian Government confirmed a requirement for 34 new multi-role combat aircraft to replace the 54 ageing F-16s in the 2023 to 2028 time frame.
The RfGP, which lays out the overall framework for the Air Combat Capability Program (ACCaP), was issued on 17 March this year after the Belgian Council of Ministers decided to start the acquisition process.
According to the RfGP, the new capability is expected to reach an initial operational capability (IOC), allowing limited expeditionary operations by mid-2027 and full operational capability (FOC) in late 2030.
