Tegam, a US-based radio frequency (RF) power measurement technology provider, has received a contract to modernise the US Air Force's (USAF) laboratories.
Under the contract, the company will provide 48 Tegam Model 2505A 6kHz – 18GHz RF Power Standards to modernise RF power sensor calibrators that are used in the USAF Precision Metrology & Electronics Laboratories (PMELs).
The PMELs offer calibration and other services to the wide range of test equipment used by the USAF around the world.
Tegam said that each Model 2505A will replace two legacy RF power standards in their existing PMX series calibrators.
With a wider bandwidth, each PMX system being modernised with the 2505A is said to increase the number of RF power sensors that the PMEL is capable of supporting, according to the company.
Following the planned upgrade, the USAF is expected to have 50% fewer PMEL assets to support for the application, which reduces the workload, and associated costs, of the Air Force’s Primary Calibration Laboratory in Heath, Ohio.

By GlobalDataTegam North America sales director Kevin Kaufman said: “These same benefits can be realised by any military or commercial calibration lab currently utilising legacy Tegam or Weinschel RF power sensor calibration systems.”
In September this year, the company's Tegam Model R1L-E2A intrinsically safe portable micro-Ohm and bond tester was selected to meet the aircraft and ship maintenance requirement of the US Navy and US Marine Corps.
