Ascent Flight Training, a joint venture (JV) between Lockheed Martin and Babcock International, has secured a £1.1bn contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to design, deliver and manage rotary wing training.
Under the contract, Ascent will deliver a new military helicopter aircrew training service across the three Armed Services until the early 2030s.
Personnel at RAF Shawbury and Army Air Corps Middle Wallop will continue to conduct their basic and advanced rotary training.
The deal also requires the company to deliver Airbus H135 and H145 training aircraft.
Ascent will also install new infrastructure and ground-based equipment at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire to train future aircrew across Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force to use aircraft such as Apache, Chinook, Merlin and Wildcat.
UK Minister of State for Defence Procurement Philip Dunne said: "This is the final element in re-fashioning the UK Military Flying Training System into a state-of-the-art structure to develop suitably qualified aircrew to secure the future of air elements of our Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.

The new contract brings the value of MoD contracts with Ascent to £2.8bn. It will create 220 jobs, in addition to the 280 already created by the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS).
In February this year, Ascent secured a contract from MoD to deliver fixed wing training that will help aircrew to fly Atlas, Voyager, Typhoon and Lightning II aircraft.
