Swiss technology group Ruag has received a contract from Saab to supply the series production of payload mountings for the Gripen E/F fighter aircraft to Sweden and Brazil.
Under the CHF80m ($77.6m) contract, Ruag will supply payload mountings that involve 33 prototypes and 546 series parts. Each of the Gripen aircraft can be equipped with up to eight mountings.
For this contract, RUAG will subcontract or enter into collaboration agreements with suppliers from various regions of Switzerland.
The task order comes on heels of a contract signed in March 2014 by Ruag with Saab for the development and production of prototypes.
Ruag plans to deliver the first prototypes at the end of 2016 and complete the series production by 2026. The contract is expected to further strengthen Ruag’s industrial partnership with Saab.
Saab deputy CEO Lennart Sindahl said: "Gripen’s success is built on partnership with world class companies as our single source suppliers on the global market.
