QinetiQ

The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has signed a ‘Strategic Enterprise’ framework agreement with defence and security technology developer QinetiQ to manage multiple projects under a single delivery approach.

Under the Strategic Enterprise, QinetiQ has won contracts of £153m in worth.

A £120m contract will require the company to provide technical advisory services to fighter jet programmes such as Typhoon and Tornado, while a £33m award will support the UK’s contribution to the four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft A400M Atlas.

QinetiQ will provide certification of A400M into service, introduce new capability and evaluate its safety.

Minister of State for Defence Procurement Philip Dunne said: "These contracts are important to maintain quality of service for the RAF’s key platforms and reflect a new partnership and way of working between the MoD and QinetiQ to sustain both capability and jobs."

According to QinetiQ, the Strategic Enterprise provides better value for money to the MoD as it cuts down management costs.

Defence Equipment and Support Chief of Materiel (Air) Air Marshal Simon Bollom said: "The Strategic Enterprise will deliver considerable savings and improve long-term planning through further improving our joint working.

"It will also support the retention of the UK skills base that will be required to deliver future programmes."

The Strategic Enterprise will see the establishment of a central management office, with employees from QinetiQ and the Defence Equipment and Support.

QinetiQ has also secured a £4.2m contract with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) to supply a command and control demonstration system for the UK Navy’s unmanned vehicles.

In October, the MoD selected QinetiQ to independently evaluate Boeing’s Digital Automatic Flight Control System upgrades to the Chinook helicopter.

The RAF Chinook Mk3 are being retrofitted with Julius Cockpit Display System/Mission Avionic System, and a Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS).
