Raytheon has secured clearance from the US Air Force (USAF) for the production of satellite communications terminals for the Family of Advanced Beyond Line of Sight Terminal (FAB-T) programme.
The USAF approved the low-rate initial production (LRIP) of the terminals following Milestone C reviews.
The company will now be able to manufacture both airborne and ground terminal variants, deliver spares and provide training, installation and logistical support, under an exercised contract option of the previously awarded production programme.
Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems-Integrated Communications Systems vice-president Scott Whatmough said: "Starting low-rate production is a significant achievement for the FAB-T program.
"Our focus during production will remain on delivering an affordable, reliable and capable solution that meets the requirements of this critically important mission."
The FAB-T programme functions as a secure satellite communications terminal which facilitates receipt and transmission of voice, data, imagery and video worldwide for the US President, senior military advisers and combatant commanders.

Manufacturing works for the terminals will be carried out by the company at its facility in Largo, Florida, with the Marlborough facility in Massachusetts offering support.
The AEHF system is a series of four military communication satellites planned to replace the existing Milstar system.
It is designed to provide extremely high-frequency (EHF) range uplink / crosslink capabilities and super high-frequency (SHF) range communications.
The system will provide military communications and jointly serve armed forces of the US and international partners, including Netherlands, the UK and Canada.
