Russian Helicopters has started the series production on the heavy Mi-26T2 helicopter, a modernised version of the Mi-26T, at Rostvertol facility.
Rostvertol has been producing the military Mi-26 helicopter and its commercial variant Mi-26T since 1980.
Russian Helicopters delegation head, deputy CEO Andrey Shibitov said: "We announce the start of production on the modernised heavy Mi-26T2 helicopter.
"Mi-26 helicopters are unparalleled in terms of their flight capabilities, and this modernisation significantly expands their potential operational use."
The Mi-26T2 aircraft features the latest avionics that enables it to operate during night-time and allows the operator to reduce the number of crew.
The helicopter is capable of carrying cargo up to 20t inside its cabin or on an external sling. It is also equipped with a glass cabin, five multifunction LCD displays, control board, duplicate electromechanical instruments, and an upgraded digital communications suite.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the helicopter is installed with special features to ease the loading and unloading of the transport cabin.
The Mi-26T2 can be used to conduct a range of construction and assembly work, and to deliver fuel in order to support the autonomous ground-based refuelling of a range of aircraft and other vehicles.
The ground proximity warning systems of this helicopter is capable of alerting crew if the helicopter is nearing the ground and the in-flight situation, obstacle and collision warning system identifies possible collisions.
