The Israeli Air Force (IAF) is reportedly planning to install a new advanced radar system in its fleet of Boeing-built F-15I Strike Eagle aircraft in the coming years.
Raytheon’s APG-82(V)1 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar is likely to be the sensor that will be integrated into IAF’s F-15I fighters to enhance its capabilities, as reported by Flightglobal.
Selection of the US-built radar instead of an Israeli-designed sensor is believed to be due to the fact that the country can acquire the APG-82(V)1 using the annual foreign military funding granted by the US.
F-15I branch head, identified as major A was quoted by the news agency as saying: "The F-15I is still our strategic jet. It holds the largest number of capabilities and has the ability to carry many weapons and reach far destinations.
"Our missions vary from routine missions related to the combat formation to special missions which will remain confidential.
According to the publication, the F-15I modernisation has resulted from delay in the delivery of 19 F-35A conventional take-off and landing fighters that Israel has ordered from Lockheed Martin at a cost of $2.75bn.

The two-seat fighter is powered by Pratt&Whitney F100-PW-229 engines like its predecessor, but incorporates new and unique weapons, avionics, electronic warfare, and communications systems.
Currently, the Israeli Air Force’s Hammers Squadron has 25 F-15Is, which were delivered between 1997 and 1999, as reported by Flightglobal’s MiliCAS database records.
