Members from the US Air Force (USAF) 16th Space Control Squadron, 16th Expeditionary Space Flight-Alpha (ESPCF-A) have transferred to the US Space Force (USSF).
The personnel are the first USAF members to transfer and stand up the first USSF unit in Okinawa, Japan. They are a part of the 2,400 USAF personnel who chose to transfer.
USSF 16th Space Control Squadron, 16th ESPCF-A deployment commander captain Devin Rushing said: “It’s absolutely amazing to have this opportunity and responsibility.
“When other service members see space force on our chest, we are aware we are the first members of the USSF they have interacted with.”
The key responsibility includes electromagnetic interference resolution and satellite environment awareness for the US and the allies.
It is also responsible for the joint force integration with the sister services.

USSF 16th SPCS, 16th ESPCF-A crew commander 1st lieutenant Monica Callan said: “We support the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, as well as the flying missions out of Kadena Air Base.
“Additionally, we work with the US Army providing them vital information. It is really amazing talking across the different services and units because you get to learn about their culture and how they operate.
“Personally, I love protecting communication during their missions. Knowing those service-specific details really adds a human aspect to those missions and reiterates how important our job is.”
