Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive cybersecurity-related hiring activity
Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 31%, emerged as the top cybersecurity-related job roles within the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q1 2023, with new job postings drop by 15% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 8% in Q1 2023, with new job postings dropping by 5% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent cybersecurity roles include Architecture and Engineering Occupations with an 8% share in Q1 2023, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in aerospace, defence and security industry accounted for 59% of hiring activity
The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2023 were Raytheon Technologies, Leidos, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Sierra Nevada, and Northrop Grumman. Together they accounted for a combined share of 59% of all cybersecurity-related new jobs in the aerospace, defence and security industry.
Raytheon Technologies posted 1,843 cybersecurity-related new jobs in Q1 2023, Leidos 1,806 jobs, Huntington Ingalls Industries 535 jobs, Sierra Nevada 450 jobs, and Northrop Grumman 402 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 75.70% share of total new job postings, Q1 2023
The largest share of cybersecurity-related new job postings in the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q1 2023 was in the US with 75.70% followed by the UK (9.18%) and Germany (3.23%). The share represented by the US was 0 percentage points higher than the 75.27% share it accounted for in Q4 2022.
