Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has announced the acquisition of 5-D Systems, which is a CMMI Level 3 Systems and Software Engineering company.
The company has not disclosed the value of the deal.
5-D Systems is involved in the design, development, integration, testing, modification and support of unmanned, manned, and optionally piloted vehicles (OPV) / aviation systems for the defence and aerospace industry.
Additionally, it provides technical / logistics / programme systems engineering and technical assistance (SETA) / advisory and assistance services (A&AS) support on government sites.
The company develops systems for the Department of Defense and other customers. It is also Kratos’ subcontractor / teammate on different programmes such as XQ-58A and aerial target systems.
5-D will be absorbed within the Kratos Unmanned Systems Division and will operate as a Systems Engineering hub. It owns facilities in Austin, Texas, and Huntsville, Alabama, in the US.

By GlobalDataFurthermore, the tactical UAS production facility of Kratos in Oklahoma City will also benefit from engineering capabilities from Austin.

“The acquisition of this long-term teammate enables us to immediately achieve our goal, while seamlessly complementing and expanding our engineering team with capability and credentials to help with our continually growing unmanned tactical and target system development efforts.”
Last week, Kratos launched its Aircrew Combat Mission Training (ACMT) system, which uses advanced immersive training technology to permit teams to train together in mixed reality combat scenarios.
