Harris has been awarded a contract for the delivery of additional Falcon III tactical radio systems to the US Air Force (USAF), to help expand deployment of wideband tactical communications across the service.
Supplied under the $38m contract, the Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack and AN/PRC-152A multiband handheld radio systems are expected to streamline the rollout of joint tactical radio system (JTRS) wideband networking capabilities, to para-rescue, combat communications and other air force personnel.
Harris RF Communications US Department of Defense business president George Helm said the air force is deploying the company’s JTRS-certified radios to provide two-channel communication capabilities.
"JTRS-certified wideband networking allows users to connect seamlessly to the Global Information Grid, a secure, classified version of the Internet," Helm added.
"Harris’s Falcon III radios provide secure voice communications and enable operators to send and receive images, video, e-mails, text messages and even participate in teleconferences."
The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G radio is a software-defined, upgradable voice and data platform, designed to support network-enabled operations, such as convoy tracking, intelligence reporting and analysis, collaborative chat, route planning and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) missions.
