The UK Royal Air Force’s (RAF) seventh C-17 Globemaster III airlifter has arrived at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, England, after undergoing modifications.
RAF Air Officer Commanding 2 Group, Air Vice-Marshal Philip Osborn said the C-17 fleet, along with the rest of the Airbridge, will deliver incredible capability to forces deployed on the front line.
The airlifter, assigned to 99 Squadron, is equipped with upgraded software and avionics, as well as additional fuel tanks that extend the aircraft’s nautical mile range to over 4,000 miles.
The C-17s provide critical airlift capability for the nation’s joint rapid reaction force and has supported humanitarian and disaster-relief missions to Pakistan, Haiti and Chile.
RAF Brize Norton is the main operating base for strategic air transport and air-to-air refuelling.
