Indonesia is planning to purchase T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic trainer jets from Korea as part of efforts to bolster the Indonesian Air Force, chief of staff Imam Sufaat has said.
Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration said it has not yet received any notification from Indonesia regarding the purchase.
The planned deal suffered a setback last month.
The T-50, built by Korea Aerospace Industries, has been designed to provide pilot training for existing and new-generation fighter aircraft such as the F-16, F22 and the joint strike fighter.
The single-engine supersonic jet trainer is capable of carrying a 20mm gun and rocket pods, plus air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles. It can also carry electronic warfare pods as well as a radar warning receiver.
