The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has received its first Airbus Military A330 MRTT new-generation tanker / transport, to be designated as the KC-30A, at RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland, Australia.

The aircraft will undergo an extensive development and test programme to become the world’s only certified and flying new-generation tanker / transport aircraft.

The A330 MRTT will be equipped with two underwing refuelling pods, the fly-by-wire Airbus military aerial refuelling boom system (ARBS) and a universal aerial refuelling receptacle slipway installation (UARRSI).

The aircraft is powered by two General Electric CF6-80E engines, equipped with a comprehensive defensive aids suite (DAS) and fitted with 270 passenger seats.

The second aircraft for the RAAF will be delivered in June, followed by two further aircraft later in the year with the fifth and final aircraft to be delivered next year.

A330 MRTTs have also been ordered by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the UK.
