French procurement agency Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) has delivered two additional Air-Sol Moyenne Portée Terrestre (SAMP / T) systems to the French Air Force.
The delivery follows a contract for 15 systems under a French-Italian programme, of which ten systems are for France and five are for Italy.
The medium-range surface-to air system is the first European system capable of intercepting SCUD theatre ballistic missiles.
A SAMP / T system consists of a fire-control subsystem, a ground-launching system comprising four truck-mounted vertical launchers and Aster 30 block I missiles developed by MBDA.
Delivery of the last system to France will take place in 2013 while the last missile will be delivered in 2016.
