Aselsan has signed a €721m ($1bn) contract with Turkey’s arms procurement agency, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM), to sell low and medium-altitude air defence systems to the Turkish military.
Under the contract, the company will develop all radar, fire control, command and control, and communication systems for both the low-level and medium-altitude components of the programme.
The company will also develop the missile heads and datalinks as part of Turkey’s multibillion-dollar programme for the procurement of air defence systems, with Roketsan as the prime subcontractor.
The low-altitude air defence system contract is valued at €471m while the medium-altitude contract is worth €250m.
US, Italian, French, Russian and Chinese companies are also separately competing for the air and missile defence system programme, according to Defence News.
