Turkey has held talks with South Korea and Sweden to jointly manufacture a new fighter aircraft in the next decade, a senior Turkish procurement official has said.

According to the Hurriyet Daily News, the official said, “The companies are South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Sweden’s Saab.”

The discussion follows an initial round of unsuccessful talks with South Korea’s KAI in which Turkey sought an equal share in the aircraft development.

“Now the South Koreans are coming much closer to the idea of equal ownership, and this is positive. But there are still many more things to be discussed with them,” added the procurement official.

The Turkish Air Force has also tasked Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) with determining the specifications of the new fighter by the end of the next year.
