Cubic Defence Applications has announced a deal to supply airborne instrumentation pods, traditionally used in air combat training for the flight testing of Boeing’s joint direct attack munition (JDAM) guidance kits.
The instrumentation pods, traditionally used for combat air training, will now be adapted to convert unguided free-fall bombs into precision guided smart weapons.
The new application for the GPS-based airborne pods will be as part of a independent time space position information (TSPI) system created by Cubic as a truth source for fighter test aircraft.
The TSPI system will initially be used for integration of JDAM / aircraft on the Republic of Korea Air Force’s KF-16 and the Royal Saudi Air Force’s F-15S, other JDAM integration programmes.
Cubic will deliver the systems in early 2010.
