Northrop Grumman is to provide mission planning software systems and tools to the US Air Force under the mission planning enterprise contract II.

Northrop is one of the five companies that won the $919m contract for a five-year base period from the Electronic Systems Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Hanscom Air Force Base.

Under the contract, Northrop will provide the software systems for warfighters to quickly and effectively plan missions and transfer required data to aircraft avionics.

Northrop will use its open architecture approach to the joint mission planning system (JMPS), which has been enhanced under the mission planning enterprise contract.

It will provide third-party integrators with the capability to reconfigure, substitute and extend application functionality, and enable common mission planning across services, platforms, weapons and sensors.
