Pratt & Whitney has received a contract from the US Government at Farnborough Air Show in the UK to provide engines to power the Royal Moroccan Air Force’s new fleet of F-16 aircraft.
Under the $145m contract, the firm will provide its F100-PW-229 enhanced engine package (EEP) engines in 2010 and 2011.
The latest evolution of the F100 family of aircraft engines, the F100-PW-229 EEP engine will provide the air force with a lower total cost of ownership and an outstanding record of safety.
It will increase the engine depot inspection interval from seven to ten years, reduce the predicted in-flight shutdown rate by 25% and provide 30% lifecycle cost reduction over the life of the engine.
The F100-PW-229 EEP is the only fighter engine which has been qualified by the US Air Force to the 6,000-cycle capability in production.
