Elbit Systems subsidiary AEL Sistemas has been selected to provide additional advanced systems for the new KC-390 military transport and refuel jet.

Under the $25m contract, the company will provide the self-protection suite (SPS), directional infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) and pilot orientation head-up display (HUD) systems.

The company had previously been selected to provide the mission computer for the new jet.

The KC-390 fixed-wing transport airlifter is being built by Embraer for the Brazilian Air Force.

The aircraft will be used to perform troop and cargo transport, aerial delivery, in-flight refuelling and medical evacuation missions.

Other important features include a double chamber shock absorber system and landing gear installed on the fuselage.
