Elbit Systems has been awarded a $90m contract from the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) to maintain the Israeli Air Force’s (IAF) F-16 array’s avionics systems.
The project will run over 11 years and will see the development of a new and cutting edge national maintenance centre for the IAF’s squadrons and bases.
Speaking about the contract, Elbit Systems president and CEO Bezhalel Machlis said: "Elbit Systems has recognised the growing global trend of maintenance and logistic support services performed via outsourcing.
"This method of service provides availability of the relevant systems while saving costs and we have been active in these types of services both in Israel and around the world.
"We are proud of this new outsourcing services contract, attesting to the satisfaction of the IMOD and the IAF with the services we have previously provided in other maintenance projects."
The F-16 is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney F-100-GE-129 turbofan engine. It was initially designed as an air superiority day fighter, but later evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft for accurate delivery of ordnance during non-visual bombing conditions.
