Lockheed Martin has secured a contract to deliver SciosTrain suite of simulators for the Romanian Air Force's (RoAF) F-16 Fighting Falcon jets.

The simulation-based training system will be customised according to RoAF’s requirements and includes a suite of full mission and combat tactics trainers that can be networked together to enable multiple pilots to train with each other on advanced scenarios.

The system will also feature technologies to deliver advanced training while meeting affordability goals, Lockheed stated.

Martin Training and Simulation Solutions vice-president Sandy Samuel said: "Our solution builds on our proven training system with hardware and software tailored for Romania's F-16 fleet.

"We look forward to delivering mission support for Romania's aircraft fleet and advancing training capabilities to strengthen their national defence."

Delivery of the F-16 training environment is expected to take place in 2019.

The contract also requires the company to deliver contractor logistics support services.

In 2016, Lockheed was contracted to deliver simulation-based F-16 training environment for the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF), which includes the Lockheed Martin-developed scalable advanced graphics engine (SAGE) image generator.

In addition to SciosTrain, Lockheed offers a wide range of training and simulation products and solutions such as SciosView, SciosTest, SciosLive and SciosReady.

The Lockheed Martin-built F-16 Fighting Falcon is said to withstand higher g-forces than the pilots.

The aircraft can carry a wide range of air-to-air missiles and air-to-surface missiles.
