The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential sale of 20 AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Block II all-up-round missiles, associated equipment and parts to Malaysia.
Under the estimated $52m foreign military sale, Malaysia has also requested eight CATM-9X-2 captive air training missiles, four CATM-9X-2 Block II missile guidance units, two AIM-9X-2 Block II tactical guidance units, two Dummy air training missiles, training and logistical support.
The proposed sale will increase the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s interoperability with the US and other South East Asian nations as well as modernise its existing air assets.
Raytheon Missile Systems will be the prime contractor.
