MetaVR has secured a contract to supply virtual reality scene generator (VRSG) for the US Air Force Material Command (AFMC) joint terminal control training and rehearsal system (JTC TRS) contract.
The JTC TRS contract was awarded to QuantaDyn Corporation by the Department of the US Air Force (USAF)-Air Force Material Command and supersedes a limited contract for the JTC TRS programme awarded to Fidelity Technologies in February 2009.
The contract will see the company supply a partial dome simulator that uses MetaVR visual channels, geospecific 3D terrain, and culture and entity models in a 3D real-time virtual battlefield.
The simulators have been designed to be able to connect to the USAF A-10 full mission trainers (FMT).
QuantaDyn’s JTC TRS solution includes commercial-of-the-shelf (COTS) components such as DIScover, Immersive Display Solutions’ immersive dome display system, Battlespace Simulations’ (BSI’s) Modern Air Combat Environment (MACE), and MetaVR’s Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG) which provides the out-the-window and sensor visuals for the dome display, a ROVER device, and emulated military equipment.
The JTC TRS requirements include 495 models of specific domestic and international military vehicles and munitions.

By GlobalDataTo meet the JTC TRS requirement, MetaVR has modelled villages to build-up culture and roads to align with terrain imagery at the required coordinates. Culture includes more than 2,000 structures instanced from over 160 newly built Afghan building models and over 11,000 instances of tree models.
The contract requires QuantaDyn to install and support two JTC TRS devices this year, with additional options for 30 more devices.
