The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) has selected nine23 to support its mobility technology programme, Project LINK, to help address the operational requirements of the service and its personnel while on the move.

As part of this contract, awarded after a 30-day period competition, nine23 will work in partnership with SBL to deliver a technical solution that is focused on forming the RAF’s own easy-to-use mobile application solution, known as Enterprise level App Store.

Rear admiral Philip Wilcocks, nine23 chairman, said the company will support the RAF in developing its mobile technology strategy to substantially enhance operational capability.

The RAF’s mobile strategy is centred on securing complete corporate data on mobile devices, while enabling distribution and management of applications and content.

Delivered through Symantec’s Mobile Device and Content Management System (MDM & CMS), the App Store will enable enterprise grade security on a per-application basis.

As part of the contract, the company will digitise more than eight gigabytes of flight documentation and training systems in support of the RAF’s fleet of C17 Globemasters with Apple iPad and iPad mini devices.

Delivery and management of the trial will be provided by the company at both RAF High Wycombe and RAF Brize Norton bases in UK.

Project LINK aims to lower operating costs and increase capability by making use of the underlying operational effectiveness and resource efficiencies in mobile technology.
