Raytheon has provided its technology for the launch and orbit of Nasa’s NPOESS preparatory project spacecraft in support of a joint Polar satellite system (JPSS).
The JPSS is a new constellation of weather monitoring spacecraft that will provide key advancements in weather forecasting, including better image resolution, and improved night-time monitoring.
JPPS features an advanced weather and climate monitoring instrument and visible infrared imager radiometer suite (VIIRS) for global imagery and data collection requirements.
The spacecraft will also aid in faster data delivery to US weather stations and can handle 100 times the data of the current system to meet US Air Force Weather Agency’s critical weather forecasting responsibilities.
Raytheon provides the technology, from space to ground, to support the weather mission.
