The US State Department has approved a possible foreign military sale to Malaysia of AIM-120C7 advanced, medium-range, air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM) with associated equipment, parts and logistical support.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress about the potential sale, which is valued at approximately $21m.
Delivery will cover ten AIM-120C7 AMRAAM, missile containers, spare and repair parts, support and test equipment, and publications and technical documentation.
Moreover, personnel training and training equipment, US Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services, site surveys and studies, and other related elements of logistical and programme support are included in the package.
This proposed sale will help Malaysia enhance its interoperability with the US, resulting in improved regular joint exercises and training. In addition, it will ensure a sustained air-to-air capability for Malaysia’s F/A-18D aircraft.
The new equipments will enable Malaysia to combat regional threats and strengthen its homeland defence.
