Northrop Grumman has secured a new contract for the delivery of its joint threat emitter (JTE) support services to Saudi Arabia.
The $75m indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract was announced by the US Department of Defense in November 2017.
It was awarded by the US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, US.
Northrop Grumman Middle East chief executive Walid Abukhaled said: “Highly advanced and ready for the systems of today and tomorrow, JTE gives the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia an important capability for preparing its aircrews for operation in the modern electromagnetic spectrum environment.”
According to the DoD release, work under the contract will be carried out in Buffalo, New York, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is expected to be completed by 21 September 2023.
The JTE is a multi-threat, hi-fidelity simulator with realistic effective radiated power levels and helps simulate both single and double-digit surface-to-air and anti-aircraft artillery radar systems.

By GlobalDataAs a robust and ruggedised system, the JTE provides realistic combat training and offers a modern, reactive battlespace environment to train military personnel to identify and counter enemy missile and artillery threats.
The system facilitates easy relocation and is reactive to aircrew / aircraft for fast-jet, fixed-wing, and rotary-wing defensive measures. It can also be rapidly reprogrammed with new threat parameters.
It also helps train combat aircrews to defeat or avoid integrated air defence systems (IADS) worldwide in a war-like training environment.
Northrop Grumman’s JTE is currently the US Air Force’s (USAF) programme of record with 23 systems fielded both domestically and internationally.
For more than 40 years, Northrop Grumman has been working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia delivering a range of modern technologies to help upgrade the country’s defence and technical capabilities.
The company also focuses on localisation activities and development of national capabilities that would encourage the country’s population to work in the technical and defence fields.
