Northrop Grumman has secured a A$200m ($151.3m) contract to support the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) fleet of C-27J Spartan battlefield airlifter.
Under the through life support contract, Northrop will provide engineering and logistics services to the newly acquired C-27J Spartan aircraft fleet.
The sustainment services will be initially provided in Richmond, New South Wales, with plans to move to Amberley, Queensland, when the Spartan relocates in 2019.
Northrop Grumman Technology Services vice-president and general manager John Parker said: “Our team will provide capabilities that go beyond daily sustainment operations to provide forward-thinking, analytical solutions for the C-27J platform.
“Our process is predictive, holistic and continually optimised to provide game-changing mission readiness.
This enables us to anticipate necessary modernisations and enhancements to the fleet.”

By GlobalDataThe contract is expected to ensure ongoing jobs for at least 40 Australian workers.
Australian Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne said: “Not only will this contract provide jobs for workers at RAAF Base Richmond and RAAF Base Amberley, it will also develop Australian industry capabilities in support of the Spartan into the future.”
The contract has a five-year base period and is expected to become fully operational from January.
Northrop Grumman will team up with C-27J’s original equipment manufacturer Leonardo to reduce primary risks to data access, design engineering support and supply chain management.
The C-27J through life support programme is claimed to directly support Northrop Grumman’s vision to develop Australian talent and capabilities in keeping with the Australian Defence Industry initiative.
