The US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) has announced that key communication upgrades are being delivered to the E-4B fleet.
AFLCMC noted that the enhancements are designed to improve communication capabilities and effectiveness, reported Brian Brackens of AFLCMC Public Affairs.
The first of four US Air Force (USAF) E-4B aircraft recently concluded developmental testing. It received the Low Frequency Transmit System (LFTS) and Advanced Extremely High Frequency Presidential National Voice Conferencing Integration Program (APIP) modifications.
Work on the other three aircraft will be performed in the coming years. The modification will be provided during their standard programmed depot maintenance cycle.
Presidential and Executive Airlift Directorate E-4B Materiel leader lieutenant colonel Ben Chown said: “These modifications are game-changing. The LFTS mod provides revolutionary single wire low frequency communication capability, while APIP transforms reliability and survivability of the E-4B SATCOM and national leadership command and control systems.”
A major part of the modification effort was carried out by the Command, Control, Communication, Intelligence, and Networks (C3I&N) Directorate.
