Galleon Embedded Computing

Galleon Embedded Computing (Galleon) produces small rugged data recorder systems, servers, network-attached storage (NAS) devices and a range of storage solutions for deployed systems for military applications.

The company’s products are used in many global applications such as airborne, naval, ground-based and remotely operated vehicles, surveillance and radar processing / recording.

High-performance rugged mission data recorders

Galleon supplies a variety of size, weight and power (SWaP) optimised rugged mission data recorders available in a range of form factors, such as industry standard aircraft radio incorporated (ARINC) 404a, half-rack and small-form factor.

Galleon's rugged mission data recorder is a compact yet high-capacity device and provides removable data cartridges to support up to 40TB of solid state memory.
All Galleon products are made using a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) architecture philosophy.
Galleon's XML Schema Repository (XSR) data recorder is easily configured to a variety of interfaces.
Specific input / output (I/O) interfaces can be added by using XMC modules and mini-PCle to increase unit capability.
The XSR includes an integrated CPU module to provide different intel processor options such as the Intel Core i7 or Xeon E3.
The microrecorder's size, weight and power (SWaP) design means it is ideal for applications restricted by space and power, as well as small unmanned aerial and ground systems.
Galleon provides a control panel (CP50) for applications needing direct human machine interface (HMI) input.

The rugged mission data recorder is compact but has a high-storage capacity, along with removable data cartridges supporting solid state memory of up to 40TB.

COTS open architecture philosophy for new technology developments

All products are designed using a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) open architecture philosophy by using central processing unit (CPU) and input / output (I/O) interface modules, as well as other design elements.

This allows us to stay up-to-date with new technology developments and offer obsolescence management mitigation methods for long-term projects.

Rugged data recorders for interface configuration

The XSR data recorder can be configured for a wide range of interfaces, including 8x 10Gb Ethernet, 8x serial front panel data port (SFPFP), 8x 3G/HD-SDI video inputs and 13x Gb Ethernet inputs, some of which are mutually exclusive.

Specific I/O interfaces such as analog videos, CanBus and avionic databuses (1553/A429) can additionally be added by using mini-PCIe and XMC modules to increase the unit’s I/O capability.

The XSR features an integrated CPU module to supply various intel processor options (Intel Core i7 or Xeon E3). This allows the XSR to be used for general purpose processing requirements, either as a recorder or server platform.

XSR products come in varying formats such as forced air, convection and conduction-cooled to enable different cooling configurations.

All XSR models are certified to MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 environmental requirements.

Compact rugged microrecorders for adverse conditions

The Galleon G1 microrecorder is a high-performance, functional Ethernet recorder created for the most adverse environments. Its SWaP design makes it an ideal solution for small unmanned aerial and ground systems, as well as applications with limited space and power.

The G1 microrecorder is ideal for surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence and flight test applications where large amounts of data need to be collected and stored.

Video compression engines for image recovery

Both the XSR and G1 microrecorder support H.264 video compression. Users are able to select whether this turned on or off, and can choose if this is operated on all input channels or only a specific number.

The engine settings can also be adjusted to provide a Lossless compression of the inputs to reduce the overall compression ratio, but enable high-resolution images to be recovered from the removable disk modules (RDM).

Control panels for direct HMI interface input requirements

Galleon can provide a control panel (CP50) for applications requiring direct human machine interface (HMI) input for features such as compression on / off, playback, rewind, fast-forward, event marketing and start / stop recording.

The CP50 interfaces to the XSR and G1 microrecorder through a serial type interface.
